• Two independent, programmable output channels
• Time duration values can be updated “on-the-fly”
• Operates in either normal or breakpoint modes
The 53A-270 Arbitrary Serial Pattern Generator (ASPG) provides two independent programmable output channels for generating arbitrary serial data patterns at TTL levels. A memory associated with each channel provides storage for up to 1,600 user-defined time duration values that control the time between high-to-low or low-to-high output waveform transitions. Time duration values can be initially programmed, updated “on-the-fly” while transmitting, or both, including the update of a given time duration while it is occurring. In addition to the time duration values, the user has full program control over the time resolution, initial output state (high or low), and the trigger conditions (software or external trigger control) for each channel.
The basic resolution and accuracy between data transitions is 100 nanoseconds. Four programmable time duration ranges are available. Multiple cards and/or channels can be configured to operate in parallel.
Two modes of operation are provided: normal, and breakpoint. In normal mode, the user specifies the time duration list (1 to 1,600 entries) to be output and the number of times the pattern is to be repeated (1 to 63 or continuous). In breakpoint mode, the user can also specify that a breakpoint be associated with any given transition. Either mode can be operated with internal triggering or external triggering. In normal mode, the output data string repeats, without interruption, the specified number of times. If a subsequent trigger is received while the transmission is occurring, the output data string starts over at the beginning of the time duration list. In breakpoint mode, the Card is retriggered after each specified breakpoint.
The 53A-270 can generate an interrupt to the system controller when a transmission sequence is completed, or at each selected breakpoint in the breakpoint mode.
BITE
Built-In-Test Equipment (“BITE”) for the ASPG is provided by a series of fourteen LEDs that provide information on the status, mode, and resolution of each channel.
