The 53A-421 Universal ARINC 429 Transmitter/Pacer Card is a two card set which includes the 53A-421 Transmitter Card and the 53A-423 Programmable ARINC 429 Pacer Card. One 53A-423 can pace multiple 53A-421 cards.

The Universal Transmitter Card is used to transmit data onto the Mark 33 DITS (Digital Information Transfer System) found on civil aircraft. The system controller (calculator or computer) outputs 8-bit bytes to the Transmitter Card which re-formats the data into 32-bit serial words for the DITS bus.

The 53A-421 Card set was specifically designed for real-time ARINC 429 testing. As a dedicated single-channel transmitter with automatic message interval pacing, it is ideally suited for these applications.

The Transmitter Card has RAM that can store up to 64 messages and automatically transmit the messages at pre-programmed time intervals. These time intervals are controlled by the 53A-423 Programmable ARINC 429 Pacer Card. The Pacer Card also allows the user to program the bit rates of the data to be transmitted. In addition, the Transmitter Card can be programmed to transmit illegal data (31 bits, 33 bits, even parity or 2-bit time word gap). These features are useful for those applications that require worst case testing of data receivers.

Labels are preloaded at the beginning of the test. The advantage of this is that the system controller needs only to output three bytes of data to the Transmitter Card for each message update. The message RAM is controlled such that when the system controller updates the Transmitter Card message RAM, data transmission on the DITS bus is not interrupted. These features are useful for applications that require simulating a Mark 33 DITS in real time.

BITE
Four LEDs provide Built-In-Test Equipment (“BITE”) for the Transmitter Card. The data detect LED will be lit when data is being transmitted, the fast/slow LED will be lit for a fast data rate, the label-instruction LED will be lit when the transmitter is in the label-instruction mode, and the message LED will be lit when the transmitter is in the message mode.
